Facilities - Primrose Project
The Primrose project is based on an amenity garden site in Rusthall, near Tunbridge Wells.
The facilities available include several polytunnels as well as the main growing area. It will be used to produce fruit, vegetables and flowers.
Therapeutic Gardening Service
The project will be used to provide a range of therapeutic activities, which will be based around horticultural work.
Therapeutic gardening provides the following:
- Healthy exercise, relaxation and stress relief while doing creative garden design work.
- Meeting new people and sharing work.
- Learning about food production, healthy eating, cooking and growing from seed to table.
- Learning about the importance of garden layout and crop rotation.
- Learning about gardening tasks all year round and in a range of environments.
- Gardening for therapy and general health and well being.
Horticultural Training
Pepenbury’s Forward2Work scheme will also be using the Primrose Project as a base to provide horticultural training. This is available to 16-25 year olds with learning disabilities. The training programme is a 13 week course which leads to a City & Guilds NPTC accredited qualification ‘Skills for Working Life’. Candidates will also receive training in Health and Safety Awareness, which is valid for three years.
The motto of our programme is
‘Skills, Confidence and Success’
and is aimed at helping people to move on into meaningful employment.
Our team of staff will provide support to enable each individual to participate in activities to the level that they choose.
